Terrarium. Intensive 2018
Description of the program
Terrarium. Intensive was developed on the basis of the methods developed by the Terrarium script platform over the course of three years. The main lecturer and course curator is Dmytro Suholytkyy-Sobchuk. The results of the Terrarium. Residence include the scripts for the films Cyborgs by Natalya Vorozhbyt, Falling by Maryna Stepanska, Weightlifter by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk. And the Terrarium Scrips Workshop has influenced such scripts as Yaroslav Yarish’s Ex and Taras Tomenko’s and Lyubov Yakymchuk’s The Word House.
The Program
The program consists of 12 practical blocks.
Each block contains:
a) lecture part (reading, analysis of examples, homework);
b) practical work in a group (analysis of students’ scripts, analysis of colleagues’ work, individual homework).
For each block, participants will perform tasks on the topic of the block, and individual tasks.
1. Structure of the script. Empathy and experience. Where to get the basis for the scripts.
2. Logline. Synopsis. Treatment. Scene. Episode.
3. Turning points. Event. Obstacle.
4. Character. (Development, motivation, psychotypes. Characteristics. Biography.)
5. Film language at the stage of writing the script. Genre.
6. Adaptation of a literary work.
7. Plot. Metaplot. Plot in painting. Culmination.
8. Dialogue in film.
9. Analysis of the text with an actor.
10. Emotional peaks. Suspense and emotion. Methods of influencing the viewer.
11. Pitching (internal for the program participants)
12. Script readings. Analysis of ready-made scenarios.
The Program Finale
- script reading by professional actors with the director in front of invited representatives of the film community;
- pitching scripts to invited directors and producers.
The purpose of the reading is to “revive” the script and get the most honest feedback from the participants, actors, director, and invited representatives of the film community.
The Process of the Program
- lectures and practical classes by the creator of the program, group work;
- the creator of the course will share his experience and methods of working on scripts that he received in international script labs;
- homework (+ literature and movies);
- master classes of invited co-lecturers.
Goal of the Program
- your completed film script;
- understanding what to do next with the written script, how and to whom to pitch, how to prepare applications, search for co-production opportunities, etc.

Duration of the Program
3 months; classes twice a week:
every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. (2-3 hours) and every Saturday from 12 p.m. (3-4 hours).
The program is designed for authors who want to write a short or full-length screenplay, develop their own technology for working on a screenplay, and gain an understanding of what to do with it next: how to pitch a screenplay, prepare an application, search for production opportunities, etc.
